Speech Therapy
Speech Pathologists in Wooster, OH
The speech pathologists at HealthPoint provide top-quality therapy to those who have difficulty communicating or swallowing. This may be due to illness or conditions such as a stroke, Parkinson’s disease, ALS, autism, speech disorders, swallowing disorders, and more.
The highly qualified team of professionals in our speech pathology department is specially trained to help each patient reach their maximum potential by providing individualized evaluation and treatment of communication or swallowing disorders.
Our speech therapy services include:
Neurogenic diseases such as Parkinson's disease and ALS can have a significant impact on a person's ability to communicate effectively. These diseases also impact swallowing skills. Our speech-language pathologists strive to improve the quality of life of these individuals by helping them cope with various stages of their disease process.
WCH therapists are trained to work with patients on the autism spectrum to improve their receptive, expressive, and pragmatic (social) language skills, as well as to implement AAC (alternative and augmentative communication) devices as warranted. Cross disciplinary social groups have been developed to encourage appropriate peer interaction.
Cognitive-linguistic therapy is offered to patients of all ages to help them re-learn skills lost due to strokes, concussions, or traumatic brain injuries. We strive to help each patient achieve their highest level of safe and independent function.
Language disorders involve persistent difficulties understanding (receptive language) and using (expressive language) words to communicate. This includes spoken, written, and other forms of language. Speech-language pathologists at WCH work closely with caregivers to improve these skills in a child's every day environment.
A fluency disorder effects the flow, rhythm and rate of one's speech. The most common type is stuttering. Our speech-language pathologists work with people of all ages on strategies to improve their speech fluency as well as to gain confidence in themselves and their communication abilities.
Speech-language pathologists are trained to both diagnose and treat speech sound disorders, including articulation and phonological disorders in children. We use evidence-based treatment techniques specific to an individual's error framework to improve their verbal speech to an age-appropriate level.
Speech Therapy Techniques for Picky Eaters: Tips and Tricks:
Speech and language pathologists at WCH offer specialized services to help you expand your child’s taste palate in order to improve their overall nutrition. We can provide assistance and solution you desire, so that food aversions don't become barriers on their road towards optimal pediatric health.
Strengthening the Body and Mind: Parkinson's Exercise Class:
Our team of skilled physical therapists now provide classes specifically designed to help those diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease. We work to improve qualities such as balance, movement, executive functioning, and social interactions. At WCH, we are committed to empowering those living with Parkinson's Disease and honored to be a part of the journey towards greater health and wellness.
The speech pathologists at WCH’s HealthPoint are specially trained to diagnose and treat swallowing disorders. Our diagnostic evaluations include bedside swallowing and modified barium swallow evaluations.
Our therapists treat patients with tongue thrust, in which the tongue protrudes when swallowing, speaking, or even while at rest.
Among the therapies we offer is a habit-training technique that involves reeducating tongue muscles and those associated with swallowing. This focuses on adjusting a patient’s swallowing pattern, which is often a prerequisite for braces.
A voice disorder involves changes in vocal quality, pitch, or loudness. Speech-language pathologists at WCH work closely with ENT's to determine the underlying cause of a voice disorder and choose appropriate treatment techniques.
