The WCH cancer care team serves patients at our Wooster Cancer Care office located in the Outpatient Pavilion to provide state-of-the-art care close to home. On the ground floor, you will find private and semi-private wellness bays, complete with a calming garden view, a linear accelerator for radiation therapy, and specialized oncology services, including CT scans, lab facilities, and a pharmacy tailored specifically for chemotherapy treatments. Additionally, our office is staffed by two board-certified hematologists/oncologists, a radiation oncologist, and a certified nurse practitioner.
As a member of The James Cancer Network (JCN), WCH collaborates with The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center – Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute (OSUCCC – James) to bring the most advanced oncology and hematology care to residents in and around Wayne County.
JCN members work hand-in-hand with the experts at the OSUCCC – James to provide seamless care to patients with cancer. At WCH, patients have access to the expansive services provided at the OSUCCC–James, including clinical trials, while still receiving much of their care close to home.
The Wooster Community Hospital’s cancer program has been granted "Accreditation with Commendation" by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer. This recognition is limited to programs actively engaged in prevention, early diagnosis, pretreatment evaluation, staging, optimal treatment, rehabilitation, and support services. A crucial aspect of success for a Commission on Cancer-approved program is providing state-of-the-art care to cancer patients seeking primary, secondary, or tertiary care at the hospital. The Commission's Program Standards encourage collaboration among surgeons, cancer specialists, and staff, resulting in improved patient care through multidisciplinary efforts.

By identifying risk factors and detecting conditions at their earliest stages, we empower individuals to take control of their health and improve outcomes.
Early Lung Cancer Detection for At-Risk Patients
Wooster Cancer Care is now providing lung cancer screening services. High-risk patients meet with a provider to discuss the risks and benefits of a low-dose CT scan of the chest. If appropriate, patients will go on to complete an imaging study and receive same-day results.
To be eligible for this lung cancer screening, patients must meet all of the following criteria:
- Age 50-80 years
- A current cigarette smoker, or quit smoking within the last 15 years
- Have at least a 20-pack year smoking history
*To calculate a pack year history, simply multiply the average number of packs smoked per day by the number of years you've smoked. For example, 1 pack per day for 20 years = 20 pack years. Or 2 packs per day for 10 years = 20 packs per year.
Lung Cancer Screening Q&A
Question: I was a cigarette smoker for 30 years. I smoked 1 pack of cigarettes per day but quit 2 years ago. Am I candidate for lung cancer screening?
Answer: Yes, you would be a candidate for a low dose CT scan of the chest for lung cancer screening. Screening for individuals at high risk can detect lung cancer early when it is easier to treat, which increases the probability of cure.
