Revolutionizing Relief: Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery for Pain Alleviation
Dr. Chirag Berry is now the first surgeon in the region to offer an ultra-minimally invasive spine procedure designed to alleviate acute nerve pain and restore mobility for those with certain types of degenerative joint disease. "The new procedure allows patients to go home right after surgery with nearly no pain," Dr. Berry explained. "Restrictions from surgery (avoiding lifting, bending, twisting) are only for two weeks, instead of almost three months with conventional minimally invasive or open surgery."
These endoscopic procedures are appropriate for arthritis of the facet joint, disc herniations and stenosis. "Due to the minimal surgical trauma," said Dr. Berry, "These surgeries can sometimes be offered to elderly patients with multiple medical conditions who otherwise may not be candidates for spine surgery."
These surgical advances are vastly different from what was available just a decade ago. Dr. Berry added, “If you are living with pain and dysfunction from a spine problem and have never consulted a spine surgeon, it may be reasonable to consult one and see if you may be a candidate for ultra-minimally invasive surgeries like endoscopy."

Your Treatment Options
We use the least-invasive methods possible to bring long-term relief of your symptoms. Many surgical options can now be performed in a minimally invasive manner – meaning less post-op pain, less scarring, and a faster recovery period for you.
Our treatments and services include minimally invasive therapies such as injection-based vertebroplasty and kyphoplasty to repair compression fractures due to osteoporosis or trauma to the spine. We also perform a wide range of spine surgeries, including discectomy, laminectomy, and other techniques that can relieve nerve compression and treat other spinal problems.
Which treatment is right for you will depend on a number of factors, including your medical or spinal condition, the severity of your symptoms, your overall health, as well as your personal treatment goals and preferences. The spine surgery professionals at WCH provide personalized medical care that’s best suited for each individual patient.
In many cases, our spine surgery patients will follow up with physical therapy at WCH’s HealthPoint facility.
