The American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR) certification is a recognition of a hospital’s pulmonary rehabilitation center’s commitment to providing patients a high standard of care and improving their quality of life. Founded in 1985, the organization aims to reduce morbidity, disability, and mortality in patients with pulmonary and cardiovascular disease. It is currently the only peer-reviewed accreditation process for pulmonary rehabilitation centers.
AACVPR PULMONARY REHABILITATION CERTIFICATION PROCESS
A successful pulmonary rehabilitation program requires healthcare providers to undergo training, which involves completing a series of 12 modules to become an effective member of a pulmonary rehabilitation team. The coursework was designed to help patients with various cardiovascular problems – including heart and pulmonary conditions – to recover faster. A pulmonary rehabilitation program includes education, prevention, exercise, rehabilitation, disease management, and patient and family support.
To gain AACVPR accreditation, a hospital’s pulmonary rehabilitation center submits an application, after which the pulmonary rehabilitation center’s practices are documented by the AACVPR accreditors. They will also measure the performance and effectiveness of the approach and practices employed by the center. Do they help the patient live a better life? The answer to this will also be heavily considered in the deliberation process. Moreover, the accreditors will check for adherence to AACVPR guidelines and standards, as well as other health societies. Finally, a committee from the AACVPR will review all the information collected prior to awarding the AACVPR certification.
The validity of AACVPR certification is good for three years. If a hospital’s pulmonary rehabilitation center is AACVPR-certified, you can trust that they have undergone extensive training, testing, and observance, which they subsequently passed. They have a proven track record of delivering the most advanced and highest quality pulmonary care. Therefore, it’s safe to assume that AACVPR-certified pulmonary rehabilitation centers are among the highest-rated in the country.
