General & Diagnostic X-Rays
X-rays are a diagnostic imaging technique that takes detailed images of the bones and joints within the body, so that doctors can accurately diagnose or monitor a patient’s condition. X-rays produce beams of light that are absorbed by the bones and tissues of the body in different amounts based on their densities. This is why bones and solid foreign objects within the body show up white on X-ray images.
X-rays are a safe and reliable way for doctors to diagnose and monitor a wide range of conditions. They are also completely painless and comfortable for our patient’s convenience.
Inpatient and Outpatient X-Ray Services
Wooster Community Hospital offers general and diagnostic X-ray services on both an inpatient and outpatient basis. These services aim to diagnose or monitor the progression of a condition that a patient may be experiencing.
General X-rays typically help diagnose:
- Injuries to bones and joints such as fractures.
- Diseases of the chest and abdomen, such as pneumonia, congestive heart failure, and abnormalities of the lungs, heart, and large vessels.
Diagnostic X-rays are generally used in:
- Gastrointestinal studies
- An upper GI series uses X-rays to help diagnose problems of the upper GI tract, which includes the esophagus, stomach, and the first part of the small intestine.
- Urinary studies to evaluate:
- Function of the bladder and other tissues.
- Microbial infection and inflammation of the urinary tract.
- Normal and abnormal development of the upper and lower urinary tract.
